BBC and Create Central initiative for new writers in Birmingham and the Black Country
Writers from the Write Across Birmingham and the Black Country initiative got together to celebrate their graduation from the programme and pitch their ideas to a panel of experts that included Sir Lenny Henry, Create Central Champion and Ambassador for the project.
Write Across Birmingham and the Black Country is an eight-week development programme specifically designed to support emerging writers and creatives who are at the early stages of their writing careers. Through a series of engaging workshops, expert-led sessions and networking opportunities, they have explored the art of crafting compelling stories for television, empowering participants to develop their own new original series idea.
This professional development programme was led by BBC Writers in collaboration with Create Central and partner organisations: Birmingham Rep, Script Sirens, Dudley Creates, Creative Black Country and Black Country Touring.
After a highly competitive open call for applications earlier this year, the selected writers took part in a range of craft and industry sessions designed to grow their professional skills, cover the foundations of storytelling for the screen, and demystify the process of writing for television.
