University of Wolverhampton opens £5m screen school

Courses including computer games design, film and television production, animation, multimedia journalism and media will be taught in the new Wolverhampton Screen School

Create Central was proud to be present at the formal opening of the University of Wolverhampton's brand new £5 million Screen School.

It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the state-of-the-art facilities to industry professionals.

Create Central Member Robin Gray gave a few words on the importance of industry engagement with higher education providers like the University of Wolverhampton, and said he was delighted that Create Central can be a supporting partner for the new School and provide further links to the creative industries in the West Midlands.

Robin said, "I joined Create Central to be part of its mission to turbo-charge the creative industries in the West Midlands and to stop the skills drain out of our amazing region. As part of my brief, I am excited to focus on digital media, content creation, esports and the VR/AR landscape.

Working closely with industry is the best way to address the skills gap that we see as a real issue for the creative content sector - and that is why partnerships like the one between University of Wolverhampton and Create Central can really help make sure that talent pipeline is delivering creatives that understand and have the skills to provide what industry needs and build fulfilling careers in the sector AND in the region."

Part of Create Central's mission is to support connectivity between the three lead creative hubs in West Midlands: Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry and Warwickshire. Connecting these three hubs through the development of skills, infrastructure and technology for the creative industries will empower the West Midlands to be much more than the sum of its parts.

Industry guests were treated to a tour of the new facilities which will ensure students have access to the best equipment, environment and experience to gain maximum employment opportunities.
