My Name is Leon, Q&A and networking event

Join us at the SquareEyes TV Festival

One of the most notable examples of Midlands based TV production over the last year was the BBC’s heartfelt adaptation of Kit de Waal’s powerful novel My Name Is Leon, telling the story of a mixed race boy separated from his white brother when their mother suffers a breakdown.

The project came to fruition through the backing of Douglas Road Productions, the brainchild of Create Central Champions Lenny Henry and Angela Ferreira, who both spent their formative years in the Midlands and have established Douglas Road as a five star production company with a true commitment to diversity on screen.

Join us for a screening of My Name Is Leon followed by a live onstage Q&A with Create Central Member Kit de Waal, Angela Ferreira and literary agent Natalie Jerome, who’ll be discussing the tricky process of transposing a novel from page to screen, as well as giving their own thoughts on representation within the TV industry and what more can be done to open up new avenues of diverse storytelling.

The screening will be followed by a Create Central & Nexus networking event for Midlands based creatives, beginning at 8pm in the Foyle Studio at the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC).
