Adil Ray OBE, Actor, Broadcaster and Writer is best known as the star and creator of the hit BBC1 sitcom Citizen Khan. After five series, the show has become one of Britain’s much-loved sitcoms and is now broadcast worldwide.
To date, Adil has received five Royal Television Society Awards for his work, including Best Comedy Programme and Best Comedy Performance.
In October 2021, Adil was presented with Asian Media Personality Of The Year at The Asian Media Awards, largely recognising his leadership in the Take The Vaccine campaign that increased the take up among Britain’s ethnic minorities by five fold.
In 2017, Adil starred as a lead in Channel 4’s groundbreaking RTS nominated drama, Ackley Bridge and in the period drama for ITV – Beecham House. In 2020, Adil appeared in his first feature film, Blithe Spirit alongside Dame Judi Dench. In 2021, Adil played lawyer, Imran Khan in the ITV drama Stephen, telling the story of the tragic, racist murder of teenager Stephen Lawrence.
Adil can currently be seen presenting Good Morning Britain and the quiz Lingo for ITV. Adil has presented across all major BBC Radio and TV networks, but is best known for his spell at the BBC Asian Network, winning the award for Best Radio Show at the Asian Music Awards.
In 2010, Adil presented the BBC3 documentary Exposed: Groomed for Sex exploring the controversial issue of the grooming of young girls, picking up an RTS for Best Current Affairs.
Adil has presented BBC1 entertainment show Have I Got News For You and also appeared on Who Do You Think You Are (tracing his roots to Ugandan royalty).
In 2016, Adil was honoured in the Queens Birthday List awarded Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services to media and broadcasting.
In 2021, Adil launched his own Birmingham based production company, Cornered Tiger, designed to help nurture and create new content from the next generation of storytellers.
